Darwin - a hand painted fabric lampshade, 30cm width base

Original, hand painted lampshade with my own design. Each lampshade is a one-off.

I adore the 19th Century zoological prints and was drawn to this one of a monkey - the second monkey lampshade I have painted, this one has a similarly cheeky face and is bound to make you smile! I have named him Darwin in homage to Charles Darwin who grew up in and was educated in my home town of Shrewsbury.

The background colour is a stripe pattern alternating Farrow and Ball's "Mizzle" and "Arsenic".

I am inspired generally by the Arts and Crafts movement founded by William Morris as well as the Bloomsbury Group artists and the home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant at Charleston in Firle, Sussex which I have visited many times.

Please be aware that due to the hand painted nature of the lampshade, that when the light is switched on, the shade will have a "mottled" appearance due to the different amounts of paint on the lampshade. In my opinion, this adds to the beauty of a hand crafted piece.
